Summary:

Lucas Friedrich Julius Dominikus von Heyden (1838-1916), an entomologist, explorer, and captain, was also co-founder of the “Frankfurter Verein für naturwissenschaftliche Unterhaltung” (Frankfurt Society for Scientific Entertainment), or 'Käwwernschachtel', established on January 18th, 1859. In 1860 he became a member of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research.
