Summary:
Johann Issak von Gerning (1767-1837) was a German writer, collector and diplomat, as well as a member of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research. The collection, gathered by his father and himself, formed the foundation of the Nassau Museum (today: Museum Wiesbaden). It includes a collection of insects with pieces from the estate of Maria Sibylla Merian.
